AMBULANCE APPEAL

£314 COLLECTED TO DATE FORTHCOMING DANCE At a meeting of the St. John Ambulance Association held on the lOtft inst., an offer was received from members of the staff of the Whakatane Paper Mills offering to run a dance on the 28th. June in the. Winter Show Buildings, the net proceeds to go to the building fund of the Association. This offer was gratefully accepted, and a committee was set up to co-operate with one from the, Paper' Mills in order that every effort can be. made to make this dance one of the most successful events of the social caltendar. | One hundred and sixty-five donations; from the Whakatane district amounting to over £314 have so far been received in response, to an | peal for funds to build the proposed hall, and the Association would ap« predate an early response from | those who have promised donations but have not yet forwarded them. It would also be appreciated if others who have not yefc made a donation. Avould take the earliest opportunity of do;ing so. A letter was also received from the Bay of Hospital Board expressing their thanks to the St. John's Association for the excellent service rendered by them in manning the hospital ambulance especi-* ally when long trips away from the Whakatane district are required. During the evening, extreme re-* gret was expressed at the impend* ing departure of Messrs L. Edwards and S. Miller, both of whom have given of their best at all times, and worked hard and conscientiously in the interests of the organisation. The ioss -of such experienced personnel, especially at the present time when they are most needed, 'will be felt by the Association. The wish was unanimously expressed that success and happiness would be the lot of t'hese departing members in their respective new spheres. .
