The competitions for the spring
cart and a box of chocolates run by the Edgecumbe Patriotic Committee were drawn at the . Welcome Home dance held at Edgecumbe last Tuesday evening. The results were -as follows: Spring Cart, Mrst Bluett, Ohope.; Box of Chocolates, lan -Campbell. Jet-Propelled Engine Group Captain Frank Whittle, inventor of the jet-propulsion engine for fighter aircraft, was recently pomoted to a wing-commander in the Royal Air Force. Captain Whittle was 14 years developing his; idea. His first engine ran successfully in 1937.
