THE HAT TRICK

EXPENSIVE HEADGEAR

The cost of hats to-day compared with pre-war prices shows a sharp Increase, but it is doubtful whether a mere piece of headgear has cost anyone as much as it did Tahae Taipeti in the Whakatane Court on Wednesday when he was sentenced to a month's imprisonment for stealing an army hat and band valued at £1 2s r the property of Naran Dukha. Messrs J. G. Mulholland and T. J. Cummings were on the bench.

Taipeti, who once worked for Du'kha returned when the house was empty and stole the above mentioned article.

In sentencing the accused, the bench stated that there was too much thieving in the district and it must be stamped out as soon as possible.
