S-r,—Recently an interesting paragraph appeared in the "Beacon" In connection with the Insurance Companies four figure disbursement to a City Fire Brigade. We must realise that full time firemen deservedly receive award wages, which nobody will-begrudge them. Could we turn to * the other side of the picture. Taking a country borough similar to this one we live in; and similarly served by a Vol-, unteer Fire Brigade, the Borough, Taumarunui, where the sum of £3045 was paid in premiums, and £590 paid in claims.
