PUBLIC NOTICES SOCIAL SECURITY CONTRIBUTION AND NATIONAL SECURITY TAX Charge on income other than salary or wages: May Instalment. Taxpayers are reminded that the first quarterly instalment of the combined charge on income other than salary or wages derived, during the year ended 31st March, 1944 falls due on Ist May. Amounts unpaild within one month fdllowing the due date incur 10 per cent penalty. The charge is: by:— (a) All persons aged 16 years or over ordinarily resident in New Zealand (including natives but excluding persons receiving total disability war pensions in respect of sex* vice in the 1914-1919 war). (b) All trustees in respect of ii>come derived by the estate or trust, whether or not the beneficiaries are entitled to receive such income tturing the. income year. Declarations of such, income must be furnished in May on Form 5.5.C.55', or in the case of on Form 5.5.C.55 A, and the first instalment of the charge computed at the rate of Id for every 8d or part thereof (2/6 d in £) paid in accordance with the instructions' thereon. The declaration/ together with the amount payable,' should be presented at a Money-Order Post Office or for-i warded to the Commissioiner of Taxes Wellington C.3. Declaration form 5.5.C.55 may be obtained at all Money-Order Offices. Trustees may* obtain form 5.5.C.55A upon appli-. cation direct to this office. Persons Who fail to furnish declarations as and when required are liable, on summary conviction to a fine up to £50. Important: Limited Liability Cem panies. The combined charge payable by a company or other corporate body on income derived during the year ended 31st March, 1944 is payable in one sum early in February next. The charge payable by a cempany in liquidation in respect of income derived up to the date of liquidation is payable in one sum upon the date of liquidation. A return of income made by any company is deemed to be a return of chargeable income for the purpose of the Social Security Act, 1938; a separate declaration of income is no longer necessary. An assessment, followed by a demand for the cornt. bined charge will be issued in due course, as in the case of incometax. Social Security Registration Fee: An instalment of this fee (5/-) becomes due on Ist May 1944, by all persons aged 16 years: or over ordinarily resident in New Zealand who are not exempt. Exemption de* tails and forms may be obtained at Money-Order offices. Every person entitled to exemption (including those receiving age benefits under the Social Security Act but no other income) must complete the exemption application form and with his or her coupon book afc a money-order office within 7 days after the last day for payment of instalment, otherwise payment may be demanded. All persons who are in receipt of Monetary Benefits under the Social Security Act, 1938, other than sickness and unemployment benefits, and all persons entitled to payments under the War Pensions Act, must produce their couponbook when claiming the instalment payable in the month of. June. The Surname and full Christian names, residential address and name and address of employer (if any) must be entered on the relative coupon fore payment of any instalment. The present series Registration Fee Coupon-book (Levy), held by Female Contributors expires with the payment of the May 1944. instalment and a new Coupon-book (second series), commencing with the May 1945 must be uplifted.
