ANZAC SERVICE INCIDENT
Sir, —Please spare me. a small space in your valuable paper, that I may say and think as did the general public, that .there is a time and place for everything. We don't know if it was lack of respect or ignorance on the part of the Mayor, for our glorious dead t that he should announce half way through the. service last Tuesday, that a dance would be held for homecoming boys. This, could have beeii done through the press I. am sure. Yours etc,, E. J. McKAY. (We have interviewed Mr Barry on the above respect and he points out that he had been approached by the organisers of. the dance who had learnt that many of the ex-ser-vicemen present at the service had no knowledge, of the dance which was to be' a 'Welcome Home' event in honour of the men returning from overseas. His only thought had been to ensure that these men received the honour which was due them, and though he would not have madfe such an announcement for any other organisation, he was, in view of the circumstances very pleased to be. of assistance.
