ANNUAL COUNCIL MELTING
The annual council meeting of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation of Women's Institutes Avas held in the Methodist. Hall, King Street, Whakatane, on Wednesday, April 12. Mrs Caverhill presided. There was a good attendance of delegates and members from all parts of the Federation. The meeting opened Avith the singing of the 1 Women's Institute song, "Comrades and Friends" and the hymn "Lead Kindly Light." Mrs. Caverhill welcomed delegates and Mrs McNaughton Dom'inion Organiser, who had travelled from Tauranga to be present at the meeting. The speaker expressed pleasure at seeing such a good attendance of delegates and members, and hoped all would spend a happy day. Special thanks to the Borough Council for the use of their rooms for executive meetings during the past 11 ears, to the Press and the auditor, Mr Pearson, was. passed by Mrs Caverhill. The minutes of the. previous annual meeting were read, the report and balance sheet were adopted and correspondence was dealt with. The V.O's gave their six monthly reports which showed good progress w'ith most Institutes, one having to go into recess on account of the recent floods.. The organisers arc Mrs, Withy, Mrs Woolfield and Mrs Stewart. The roll call of delegates and their expense.se were taken by Mrs K. Armstrong. The resolutions were fully discussed and voted on. Discussion took place re-W.l.'s and the franchise, and the Federation. Secretary was instructed to write to Headquarters for more information and that the resolutions involved be published in "Home and Country" the official W.I. journal. Afc this stage an adjournment for luncheon was made. The main feature of the afternoon was an address by Mrs McNaughton who: presented Mrs Caverhill with a beautiful bouquet of flowers with best wishes from the Tauranga Federation. The speaker's address was, most helpful and instructive, stat-J ing there was: much to do to. bring those back to civil life, who have served in the forces in other lands, and returned home. Each Institute gave a short halfyearly report of its general and Patriotic wor'k t such as knitting, etc. A discussion of Mutual Problems followed, all members taking part and proved very interesting. The results of the election were: President: Mrs Caverhill, unopposed; Mrs K. Armstrong, Mrs M. King, Mrs L. Grey, Mrs F. J. Savage, Mrs Withy Snr., Miss Rendall, Mrs Cooper, Mrs Pieubeii Looney, Mrs Jcssup, Mrs Le Lievre, Mrs McCallion. A much enjoyed item by the cho'ir of the Whakatane Institute was greatty appreciated. The Waimana W.I. was: again the winner of the Talent Rose Bowl; the funds collected by it go to each district Patriotic quota. The competitions for the day were: Bread brooches or posies, Waiotahi 1; Waimana 2. Gloves, Otakiri 1 and 3; Taneat.ua 2. Apple Pastie, Whakatane 1; Matata 2. Bowl of flowers or foUiage for effect, Whakatane 1; Waimana 2. Afternoon tea was served and the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
MEETING AT EDGECUMBE
The April meeting of the Edgecumbc AVomen's Institute was held on Tuesday, Mrs Hodson presiding. The meeting opened avitli the Ode to Friendship and the. Aspirations were read by 'Mrs Hodson. Iwo new members were enrolled. Arrangements were made for a glove making day. A verj r interesting and comprehensive report Avas given by Mrs Burgess of the Council meeting to which she was a delegate. Mrs V.Peck, of Otak'iri. Institute, then gave a most artistic demonstration of the .making of flower posies and shoulder sprays. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded her. A talk was given by Miss Jeffries, dental nurse at Edgecumbe Dental Clinic, which was followed with interest by mothers, df young children. The roll call was "Your subscription and a tablespoonful of tea" and resulted in "nearly 100 per cent subscriptions and a su-pply of tea for the year's meetings...
