RUBBISH COLLECTION
ACQUISITION OF NEW TRUCK
COUNCIL'S ENQUItRIES
A rather pointed letter from the Whakatane Chamber of Commerce received by the Borougjh Council at its last meeting urged the necessity of the council; following up the latest sale of released army vehicles which was* now announced, in the interests of securing a suitable truck for the town's rubbish collection. The Mayor (Mr B. S. Barry) said that he had learnt of the sale some time previously and had instructed the town clerk to lodge a tentative order. A reply from the Transport Department had. been received to the effect that, consideration would be given the application as soon as the number of vehicles for sale became apparent. It was decided to write acquainting the Chamber of Commerce with the position.
