ITEMS OF INTEREST

Impromptu Playing Area The wharf certainly provides a liappy hunting ground for small children after school hours in the skipping season as not only is there a good surface but an. unlimited supply of rope, which can be used in the pursuit of this pastime. Ir. fact this stamping ground seems likely to oust the popularity of the proper playing area although there is nothing like a good swing and a see-saw to "stir one up!" Research at Ruakura After the cessation of hostilities it is likely that the Ruakura Animal Research Station will be expanded with a much increased staff and many additions to present buildings. No actual decision lias been reached, but it is understood that there ihas been some preliminary discus- 1 sion in regard to the future position of the station. It has already been decided to establish an artificial breeding centre, at the station this year with a service to farmers of the district, and for this purpose the old disused piggery headquarters, which as a large concrete building, is to be. renovated and extended for the purpose. Large numbers of sheep have recently been purchased for the conducting of sheep experimental work, and a start has already been mode with the artificial insemination of sheep.
