Warning fb Cyclists
Complaints that cyclists in the Kopeopeo district were, using the concrete footpaths as racing tracks and refusing to give way to pedestrians made, the Borough Council sit up last Monday evening and it was decided, to refer the matter to the Traffic Inspector for action.
Vehicle Check-up
During the past few days Whakatane has been, visited by Vehicle Inspector F. Annan, of Rotorua, when all transport and goods vehicles have been carefully inspected and checked. With him has been Chief Inspector C. Treadgold of the Transport Department, Auckland.
Fertiliser Appeals
Farmers should not lose sight ot the advertisement in this issue, drawing attention to fertiliser rationing. Under the conditions set out, this is an opportunity to apply for an alocation. Appeals require to be lodged not later than the 30th instant.
Painful Accident
An accident occurred at the rowing on ,Sunday last, when Terry Maxwell, aged 11 years, suffered a deep cut in the foot, as the result of jumping accidentally on to a broken bottle. He was admitted to the Wliakatane Hospital where his condition is reported to be satisfactory.
Prohibition. Order
On the evidence of Constable Rice, the Whakatane Magistrate's Court last Tuesday, authorised the institution of a prohibition, order against Joe Takarua, of Taneatua, on the grounds that, his excessive drinking habits had led him to neglect and to properly maintain his family of eight children.

No Aeroplanes Allowed!
Opotiki shootists who contemplate taking out a license for the. coming season may be perturbed by the provision in the Animals Protection and Game Act which prohibits the use of an aeroplane in the taking or killing of game. They may, however, travel to or from a rendezvous in an aeroplane. Another clause states that live decoys may not be used; and so apparently it is illegal to disguise an aeroplane as a duck in order to entice the. ducks within shooting range.
"Spinning Club"
Never at a loss for new methods of entertainment, the younger generation has discovered yet another novel form of amusement which takes, the form of flicking a miniature tin propellor of a twisted piece of metal into the air. The speed at which the propellor is turning as it leaves the stick is sufficient to carry it fairly high up, then it commences to spin its way rapidly to earth. The entertainment derived from this Seems to be never ending, but motorists appear not to share in it as they endeavour to circumnavigate groups of children in the middle of the road slowly "spinning" their way home from school.
