RED CROSS-PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE APRIL MEETING HELD . The monthly . meeting took place in the Borough Council Chambers on Tuesday, April 11 at 2 p.m. Mrs W. Sullivan was in the chair. Mrs Sullivan said a meeting of the Ladies' and Men's Entertainment Committees had taken place and 'it was agreed to hold a Welcome Home Ball for soldiers on Wednesday April 26w Supper was being supplied by the ladies of the Red Cross, Cale donian Society, W.W.S.A., and the Women's Section of the R.S.A. Mrs E. Armstrong would look after the supper arrangements. Mrs Stewart, President, Women's Institute, had requested that a small Red Cross Committee meet a similar committee from the lnsti- ! tute to discuss the matter of a hall, [t was decided that such meeting be held on Monday inst at 2.30 J p.m.: V.A.D: Mrs Prideaux said she was Still unable to hold classes, but a Church parade would be held on the last Sunday in the month. Knitting: Mrs Timbs reported the following garments had been made and despatched during the month: For Joint Council —1 pair gloves, 1 pair mittens, 10 pairs socks, 8 pullovers, 1 balaclava, 1 scarf. For Patriotic—4 pairs socks, 12 balaclavas. 19 scarves. Mrs Timbs also expressed thanks to knitters. Comforts: Mrs Shapley said her committee was preparing to do another parcel pack. Shop: Mrs James read out amounts taken by various streets, which made a total of over £80. The key and cash box are now being left at Mr P. Patterson's shop. Mrs Tames suggested that something gootl for a raffle be bought, and it was decided that a handbag be obtained for this purpose. Hospital Visiting: Mrs James reported that she was still visiting t.lie hospital and giving cigarettes and chocolates to soldier patients. There are only two men in at. present. Annual Meeting: It was decided to hold a special meeting for this (instead of holding it as usual on the second Tuesday) and it was agreed that the building of a Red Gross liall could be fully discussed then also. The. date fixed was; Friday, April 28. It. .was hoped that members will .attend this meeting in good numbers.
