FARMER AS CHAIRMAN
MASSEY COLLEGE BOARD Mr R. A. Candy, of Ngarua, Walkato, has been appointed chairman of the Board of Governors of Masse y Agricultural College, in succession to Mr G. Grey Campbell of Auckland, who has resigned because* of ill-health.
Failing health has also resulted in the resignation from the Board of Mr Arthur Morton, of Egmont Village, Taranaki, who has served continuously since becoming a foundation member of the governing body in 1927.
Mr Candy is recognised as one of the leading figures in the dairy industry in New Zealand. His public offices include chairmanship of the Herd Recording Council of the New* Zealand Dairy Board, membership of the National Council of Primary Production, the management committee of the Dairy Research Institute, and of the directorate 1 of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Co. Ltd., which is. the largest of its kind in the British Empire. Mr Candy, who was appointed .by the Governor-General to the Massey College Board in 1937, takes over the chairmanship from Mr Grey Campbell at a time when the Board's postwar plans are commencing to operate. Mr "Campbell, who was appoint* ed by the Council of Auckland University College in 1936, had a particularly strenuous 12 months as chaiirman. | Seventeen years as a board member, five ; of which were as chairman, is the record of Mr Morton, whose name is a household word in the dairying industry. He was for 33 years chairman of the National Dairy Association and served for long periods on the management Committee of the Dairy Research Institute.
