WHAKATANE WINS SHIELD
CLOSE KEEN CONTEST
The final game ♦for the Whaka-> tane-Taneatua Shield took place .on the Whakatane Club's rinks last Saturday when the locals staged a goodi win by 87 points to 69 after some keen and closely contested games. Taneatua's was insufficient to offset Whakatane's heavier scores on the aggregate. The contest. however was a thoroughly enjoyable one from all angles and players are looking forward to a further test of strength next season. Details were as under Taneatua players being mentioned first in each instance:— Rixon, Gee, Cradwick and Lawn. 15 lost to Bennett, Goates, G. Head and Harris 17. Brophy, Rae, Rice and Ferguson 19 lost to McKenzie, Pearson, Littlejolm and Howat 24. Moody, Fox, Marsden and Hunt 25 beat Buckman, Drube, Currah and Loane 21. Doran, Graqe, Foster and Moody 10 lost to Wilson, Salmon, Baxter and King 25. Feathers: J. Murphy, Pettit, Tebbutt and Alexander 9 lost to Breckon, J. Wilson, Lessing and T. Wilkinson 24. FRIENDLY GAMES Details of games played over the week-end were as under:— Shaw, O'Rourke, Hellyar and McLeod 17 beat Morgan, Cantrell, Warn-i----er and Marsh 14. Bigelow, Hayward and Caisley 34 beat Holden, Murjjhy and Chamberlain 20. J. Bell, Alexander and Tipp?tt 19 beat Topp, Shapley and Burgess 14. Dainton, H. L. King, Francis and Stacey 21 beat Smith.
