WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT OTAKIRI The monthly meeting of the O'takiri Women's Institute was held in the Otakiri Hall on Thursday, April 6. There was. a good attendance presided over by Mrs Armstrong. The meeting opened with the singing of the "Ode to Friendship." • Remits for the Council meeting were discussed and voted on, and Mrs Jessop and Mrs Mantell were chosen as delegates. The Roll Call "Children's Funny Sayings" was well answered and was most amusing. A most interesting and instructive talk on Bulb Growing was given by Mr Starnes and was very much appreciated. The competitions were very keenly contested and the winners were as follows: Best flower, Mrs Missen 1; Mrs Armstrong.2; Mrs Peck 3. Best vegetable, Mrs Peck 1; Mrs Armstrong 2; Mrs Smith 3. Apple jelly, Mrs Missen 1; Mrs Peck 2; Mrs Mantell 3. Slice apple tart in sauce, Mrs Mantell 1; Mrs Smith 2; Mrs Mackrell 3. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Hancock and Mrs Smith and the National Anthem brought a most enjoyable afternoon to a close.
