THE "GOOD ENDEAVOUR" LEAGUE

What ho, what ho, ma hearties* Well and how are you all after your Easter holidays? I hope you had a good time although the weather certainly wasn't so good on Good Friday was it. I was out sailing in my boat when the weather turned nasty and Peterkin and I certainly got a wetting; the result was that Butinsky had the laugh on us. when wc got back as he had stayed sleeping by the fire (Butinsky isn't very fond of salt water). And now I must extend a very hearty welcome to three shipmates who have written all the way from Palmerston North to join the Good Endeavour League. Well step aboard and we're right glad to have you. Shiver my timbers, if this goes on I'll have to have a special corner for shipmates; from P.N. Anyway I'll see if I: can fix up some sort of competition prizes for you. Well I'd better take in my tops'ls and get on Avith the story. Your old friend P.T.W.

JOKE CORNER Boy: We once had a goat that Ave called "Nearly" because he was all but. (all butt). Second Boy: We had a rooster we called "Robinson" because he Crusoe (crew so). Third Boy: That's nothing. We had a dog called "Sausage" because he was half-bred (half-bread). It's a rattling good car, Jack. Jack: So I hear, Bill; s»o I lieajr.i Sound in every part. Seasick boy (looking at the sea): "Britain rules the waves, but I w%h she'd rule them straight." Little Girl: When I grow up I'm going to marry a Dutchman. Mother: Why, dear? Little Girl: Because I want, to be a duchess. Man: Three months ago you sold me a plaster to cure; my rheumatism. Chemist: Yes, sir. I remember. Man: Have you got something to get rid of the plaster. Grandmother: If you wash, your face I'll gfive you some»ice cream. And if you wash your ears you'll get twice as much. Grandson: Well, can't I take a bath? j Uncle: And what part of school you like best, Tim? Tim: The outside, uncle. "Dear teacher," wrote an indignant mother, "you must not cane my Tommy. He is a delicate child and isn't used to 'it. At home we never hit him unless in self-defence" mm■ m m Little Boy to. Stationmaster: What time is the next train Mister? Stationmaster: I've told you five times now it comes in at 4.44. Little Boy: I know that but I like to see your- whiskers wobble when you say 4.44! THE TOY SHOP E know a shop with lots of toys And things that are good for girls and boys. There are bottles of sweets, and kites and balls, And brushes and sunshades hung on the walls. If I had plenty of money to spend I'd buy a doll with legs that bend. A Jack-in-the-box for Baby Joe. And a nice big bugle that Billy could blow 7 . Everyone likes the. old lady in there, With her red lace shawl, and a cap on her ha'ir. She stands at the door when we pass that way, Smiles and says., "What do you want to-day?" THE FAIRY'S VISIT One night while I was in. my bed A little fairy came and said : "Would you like to come to tea And see a funny fairy bee?" T said I'd love to come to tea And see the funny fairy bee. Just then nurse came and had a peep "Now then, Mary, time you were asleeu."
