ANNUAL GOLF MEETING

The annual meeting of the TVaimana.Golf Club was held in the Waimami Hall recently. There, was quite a good attendance of members. Mr L. Dueker was in the chair. The secretary, Mr C. AVylde, read the minutes of the' last annual meeting, and presented the balance sheet. The officers for the coming .season were then elected: President, Mr L. Dueker (re-elected); honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr M. Mannion; captain, Mr J. D. AVardlaw; vicepresidents. Messrs M. King and B. Heather: green superintendent, Mr J. D. Wardlaw; auditor, Mr McConuell; committee, previous officers mentioned and Mrs M. King and the lady captain. The subscriptions are the same as last year, gents 30/'-, ladies 20/-. The working bee and opening day will be decided later. The president and secretary were i thanked for the great amount of; work done, for the club during the past year; a vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting. | TENNIS MATCH | "YV AIM AN A v EDGECUMBE j A tennis match of great interest j was held, on the AA'aimana courts during the past week-end. The match commenced in glorious sunshine, but ended with rain, and hail. The home team just won on the matches played, 10 matches to 9, ■ only two sets of singles being play^ 1 ed. The following are the detailed results:— Ladies' Singles: Miss F. AVoolfield beat Mrs Marx 7-5. Men's Singles: D. A Vool lie Id beat Mr Horwood 9-C3. Combined Doubles: Mrs King and A. FAREWELL AND WELCOME

HOME DANCE

The dance held -In the Waimana Hall last Monday evening was verywelt patronised. The music was played by Mr Kind's orchestra, extras were played toy Mr M. Burke and Mr A. Bell.- The duties of M.C. was capably carried out toy Mr 1). Boynton. A Monte Carlo Waltz was won, by Mr Henderson and partner and a Novelty Monte Carlo went to J. Boynton and Miss 1 Patsy Boynton. The Statue dance was won by Mrs Ducker and Mr Angus. The guests of the evening were Ordinary Seaman J. Boynton, who was being farewelled and Sgl. "Wilfred Mncdonald, 11.X.Z.A.F. was welcomed home after completing his training in Canada. A bring and buy stall of sweets, cakes and produce was held and the takings from it were £12 and will go to the Gymkhana funds 1 . The door money was £2U. Boxes, of homemade sweets, donated by Mrs Gallagher for competition, were- won by Miss Helen Woolficld and Dora Wardlaw. Mr D. Wool field gave 20 water melons for competitions and sale. After supper Mr J. L. Burnett called on the guests to come forward, and O.S. Jim Boynton was presented with a wallet and its contents, with tlie best wishes of all present for his future career, and Sgt. Maedonald was the recipient of a cheque, as a small gift of appreciation, ol what lie had done in the past eighteen months, the speaker wishing him good luck in the future. the splendid evening given them and the gifts. Sgt. Alacdonakl took the opportunity of thanking the Patriotic Committee and ladies of the district for all parcels lie had received while in Canada, which arrived in perfect condition, with the exception of one they were greatly np-» prcciated. The company then joined in singing "For They are Jolly Good Fellows." The committee wish to thank all who so willingly helped with the serving of the supper, especially several young men. from Edgecumbe. The M.C. also thanked Mr and Mrs King and Mrs- Eagle for supplying the music free of charge. Dancing" continued until late hour.
