RIVER EROSION

TRAFFIC BRIDGE AND LANDING ROAD BOROUGH COUNCIL'S CONCERN In answer to the Whakatane Borough Council telegram that the P.W.D. Engineer who made a survey of the Plains following the recent disastrous should 1 also include in his report the deteriorating state of the approaches to the Whakatane traffic bridge and also the erosion l taking place at Landing Road, the Hon. R. Semple has replied stating that if the engilneer failed to contact the Council he would in any case have included! in his investigations the two points mentioned. The Mayor (Mr B. S. Barry) replied stating that the engineer had

aparently left the town without visiting the local authority at all. Cr Shapley: 1 think that was a very regrettable oversight on his part. This matter has been discussed by the Council for years and nobody seems prepared to take the responsibility. On Cr Shapley's motion it was decided to write the Minister suggesting that the. district engineer confer with the Council on the matter and endeavour to reach a conclusion. II ■•nil I I
