WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT TANEATUA

The monthly meeting of Ihe Tanealua Women's Institute was held in the hall supper room on March It. Mrs Gardner presided over a good attendance. The meeting opened with the Institute song, played by Mrs Stewart,, of Whakntane. the Voluntary Organiser for the district, and the Aspirations read by Mrs Bennett. Apologies were received from Mesdamcs Symmans. Adams, and Lawn, and one new member, Mrs Logan, was welcomed. The minutes of the last monthly meeting Ave re read and confirmed. Mrs SteAvart explained the remits for the annual meeting of the. District Federation, and it AA r as decided to postpone voting on these remits till the next meeting. It Avas dccided to ask Mr Moody tc audit the books for flu: forthcoming year. A motion of condolence was passed Avith Mr and Mrs Moore and family. Winners, of competitions Avere as follows: A. Dress worn by maker, Mrs Moore 1; Mrs Reid 2. B. Plum jam, Mrs Anderson 1; Mrs Grey 2. C, Best llower, Mrs Grey 1; Mrs Gardner 2. The annual meeting Avas then proceeded Avith, presided OA'er by Mrs Gardner. The minutes of the last annual meeting were, read and confirmed. The secretary's report Avas adopted as read. The president commented on Lheyear's Avork, and thanked the secretary, Mrs Moore, and the committee for their excellent Avor'k during the year. The balance sheet was adopted as read, after Avhieh the convenors; of the Gardening and Drama Circles gave reports on their year's actiA'ities. Election of Officers, President: Mrs Gardner; Committee: Mesdamcs Moore, Semmens, Merrie. Adams, Storey, Grey, Anderson Doran, Bennett and Miss Hills; Conn petitions Secretary: Mrs Adams; Trading Stall: Mrs Merrie; Press Correspondent: Mrs Gardner. After a discussion on the allocation of subscriptions, members decided on the following: 1/- to Dominion Federation; 1/- to Institute Funds; (>d to District Federation; 6d tea levy to Institute Funds. It was decided to make the fol-< lowing changes in competitions: 1. Points prizes to bo awarded annually for Flower competition; 2. Only one entry in each competition to be allowed each member. 3. A tine of one penny to be leA T ied on any mem•ber having no entries in competitions. Recommendations for Long Service Badges: Mesdamcs Merrie and Adams AVinner of points prize for year: Mrs Moore, with Mrs Adains as run-ner-up. Mrs Moore thanked the committee and members for their assistance during the year, and proposed a vote of thanks to the Honorary Audi Lor, Mr Rogers. A sumptuous afternoon lea was served by the committee, after which the meeting closed Avith the National Anthem.
