FLOOD VICTIMS

WINTER GRAZING NEEDED API'KAL TO FARMERS Tfic recently constituted Flood Damage Committee is appealing for offers to graze dairy <»tock for the winter. Unless more offers to carry out this responsi-* J bility for those unfortunate farj mers who are unable to winter j their own stock owing to flood damage come forward' the committee will be faced with a serious problem. Temporary grazing offers have more than coped with the needs of the moment but what is now need-f ed is an undertaking by individual farmers to graze a small group of cows for the winter months when, the feed problem will be most acute. If 2(H) fanners on the plains or adjacent to them, who have not been affected by the floods would undertake to winter from 5 to 10 extra head the whole problem would be solved. It i.s felt that in the past farmers have been reticeiit in offering to take stock in the erroneous belief that they would be hurdled with a full herd. This: what the committee desir.e ;it all. The aim is to s-pread the res-ponsibility as much as possible s.o as. to equalise, the burden and avoid penalising, those willing to take more than their shareIt is anticipated that aiothcr 500 head of dairy stock will .need placing after next month and farmers . are therefore urgently asked to review their own position and where, humanly possible to extend an offer to the committee to take at least a few head. Contact for this purpose can be made with Mr Tan Gow (chairman) or any other member of the com-, mittee.
