I Described as the last tkifend- ' ant to come before the Court as a result of the recent police round-up of the gangs at Ruatoki, Cecil Rangi appeared before Mebsjrs G. A. Brabant and J.| King, J.P's, in the Whakatane Police Court on Tuesday and' pleaded guilty to a charge of theft. Sergeant Farrell said that with other members of the gang (who had already been dealt with) defendant had entered the premises of the Anglican Mission and stolen therefrom a bottle of jam, a knife { spoon and fork. He was the of the g:|ng members to be handled by the eourL the others having been punished previously or through the Children's Court. Iti was to be hoped that the whole movement would now be. effectually stamped out. Rangi was sentenced to one month's imprisonment in the local gaol, a sentence which is identical with that dealt out to other Maoris who had entered the Mission.
