t Mr G. H. Frater, Registrar of the Social Security Department, Rotorua, is visiting the Wliakatanc district in connection with business matters. Sir Harry Batterbee, United Kingdom High Commissioner, and * Dr. Becbc of the Education Depart-, ment, are visiting Ruatoki this afternoon. News lias been received by Mr and Mrs Norman Carter, of Awakeri, that, their eldest son Flying Officer Hubert (Hori) Carter l,ias been pro-, moted to the rank of Flight Lieu-r tenant. This recognition follows a long period in which he acted as instructor at Ohakea, alter being one of the tirst. New Zealanders to see service, in Guadalcanal in October, 1939. Our warmest congratulations are extended to the family.'
