Proposed Gymnasium Club Attention is directed to a mooting in the Awakeri Hall on Monday. March 20 at S p.m. for the purpose of forming, it sufficent support warrants it, a Gymnasium Club in that district. All who are interested in this splendid, movement should attend. Picnic Epidemic The picnic epidemic seems to have hit Whakataneites very. hard. It all started Avith fishing trips in the "Port Whakatane" out to Whale Island. and it lias now developed into a real lexer. The: Mrst symptoms can be seen when the various, heads of J different local organisations stand ) on the headland, and gaze Avith eyes 1 lull of yearning out in the direct < tion of the Whale. From then on < things move rapidly to a crisis and < it is not long before the "Port," s (weather permitting), is cruising jauntily away laden* with the a* an- I ous parties which have selected that day for picnicking. Various companies of the Home Guard have had their picnics, whilst last Thursday the Harbour Board, Hospital Board, County Council ctc. AvalloAVC'd imundulatingly on their way to the Whale. The public mav put their minds at rest. The stall' ol the BEACON is immune from the fever —we hope.! !
