HAYMAKERS' ARMY

A TERRIER'S IMPRESSIONS The Army's no longer important; In numbers they slowly clecreasn With transfers to Air Force and Navy, Discharges and. Manpower reieasfiThe Gockie.s are crying for labour.. And apparently have a big say, For we've called a half-time in the* Army, To help ! em to bring in the hay. When L think of the appeals they've rejected— Key men that they just couldn.'spare But now that the Cockies want labour It's entirely a different affairOur forces arc sadly depleted— Like old soldiers fading away. They turn round and ration our butter, Then ask us to bring in the l ay. For months now the boys have beertraining; Courses in camps far away: Specialists in every department. Then send them to bring in the hay. There are Signallers, Gunners and Sappers : On seven and sixpence, a day. The Government wants butter to ration So the Army must bring in the hay. Apparently the war doesn't mutter— It's the Cockies that must carry on. But I think by the end of the season There'll be one or two doing their scone. For our boys are not really farmers. And if breakages come off their pay, The Cockies will always remember When the Army boys brought in the hay.. And think of the Cow Cockie's daughter, Her smile so delightful and gav„ There's bound to be wooing and cooing When the Army goes out making hay. Anon.
