PATRIOTIC MATTERS

MEETING OF MEN'S COMMITTEE CANVASS OF BOROUGH A meeting of the Whakatane Men's Patriotic Committee will be held at the Borough Council Chambers on Monday evening next, February 28 at 8 p.m. with the object of making arrangements for the collection of this year's quota of patriotic funds. All men within the Borough must feel intimately interested in the appeal, and are urged practically to demonstrate their sympathy and interest with the cause by being present at this meeting. I

At the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Whakatane Borough (including Ohope) Patriotic Committee held last week, the chairman, Mr B. S. B;frry, reported that the response to the 1943 Patriotic Appeal had been quite good, with the result, that the local quota of £1478 had been fully realised, the linal payment having been made by the mid,die of December last. He expressed the thanks of the committee to the ladies for their invaluable aid, to the Ohope Committee for their excellent work, and to the many canvassers through the Borough for their helpful assistance, and his congratulations to them all at the success attending their ac-j tivities. The local quota for 19441 amounts to £1300. The Ladies' Committee is being asked to again help substantially in raising this amount, and it is also proposed to continue the system of house to house ccllccdon to be again organised by the Men's Committee. j

At the first call by canvassers, which will be prior to March 14, donors will be asked to indicate their total donations for the year. In some cases this will be paid in one sum and in others the amount will be paid by monthly contributions, but in each case it is pior posed that, the amounts promised shall be publicly acknowledged through the columns of the Beacon.
