BRICK AREA BY-LAW
QUESTION OF DISCRETION BOROUGH COUNCIL'S DECISION No objections to tlie advertised application of P. G. Worrall for the right, to construct a corrugated iron building 011 his section in Commerce Street, the question of waiving the Brick Area By-laws once again became the subject of a strong, debate at the Borough Council meeting last Monday. The Mayor (Mr B. S. Barry) thought it was a case 1 where the permit should be granted. Tho Building Controller had given liis consent in view of the applicant's' business Avhich was in connection with primary production. Crs Sullivan and Canning supported the Mayor, the former adding that he would like the building well set back from the- road. Crs Creeke. and Cummings were in sharp opposition maintaining that if the by-laws offended, they should be amended, but in no wise should they be waived, or by-passed. They Avere not opposed personally to the application but made it plain ihat there should be no diilerentation between the council's under this heading. Cr Canning said the other two* applications recently before the; council, could 1101 be compared with, the present one which was or. the? borders of thf residential section cf'. he. town.
