Water Melon Season
Increasing evidence of the watermelon .season which will soon be at its peak, -can bo seen, iJ' one cares to look, on every side. The proof 01 the statement that the nigger made when lie said "Ah likes water-melon 'cos it wets inali ears" can be seen by the number of small kiddies on the streets with water-melon stains encircling their faces, and even the water-melon it sell" sometimes. Grown ups too arc not entirely free from the habit of eating melons on the street, although the majority of them seem to prefer to cut of!" small pieces with a knife and eat it that way. This might be a less conspicuous method, but it certainly cannot compare for enjoyment with the o'd fashioned way of biting directly into the. centre of a large slice and, as the nigger intimated, welling one's ears at the same time.
