PATRIOTIC PARCELS

NEW ZEALANDERS IN INDIA

Just as in the Midd'e East it lias not been an easy matter for LieutCol. Wa'te to inane contact wiih New Zealanders who are s~nt to join the R.A.F. in this, theatre or who are serving on Royal Naval ships in this area, the New Zealand Patriotic Board's representative in .India has also experienced difficulty in obtaining a complete list of lames of such personnel in India, as ~\\ ell as individual New Zealanders attached to the Indian services. A recent report, however, indica'ed that he has made considerable progress this direction, so that no one may be overlooked he has asked the Board to make if known that he would be pleased to reccive the addressee oi New Zealand neisonnel serving in India from their parents or other relatives in New Zealand. The Board's representative in India is. Mr C. 11. G. Gardiner Manaager of the New Zealand Insurance Company. Bombay. In a,n airgraph letter dated December 21 he stated that he had now managed to obtain what he believed to ua a more or less correct record of R.N.Z.A.F. and R.N.Z.N.V.R. personnel. In an earlier communication he outlined steps he had taken to make his lists as complete as possible, and in this connection he said he had enlisted the co-operation of the naval establishments and the New Zealand liaison • officer with the R.A.F. Besides New Zealanders in the R.A.F. and serving on Royal Naval ships and. R.N.Z.AF. personnel, he stated, there were other New Zealanders in the Indian services. Some, for example, were attached to the Indian Army and there were, also New Zealand girls in the nursing service. Wherever contact was made with them they received, patriotic gift parcels received from New Zealand. He could assure the Board that the best efforts were being made to contact them and to see that none were dis.< appointed. Although there were difficulties., it was hoped that in due course there would be. few who did not at some time receive a patriotic parcel. Mj- Gardiner acknowledged the arrival of shipments of gift parcels which are being sent quarterly from New Zealand. — - "
