The secretary reported that on the 12th January he had ; conferred with the Deputy Building Controller ancT Mr Clark, District Building Controller, Hamilton, and if, in the Board's opinion there was a shortage of dining room accommodation in Whakatane, and it was the intention of Whakatane Amusements Ltd. to build, a dining room then probably thfc permit would issue to Whakatane. Amusements Ltd. to rebuild the premises for such pui> pose. "The position in Whakatane as far as public dining rooms go, is shocking," said Mr Tickner. "They cannot cope with the people and another modern establishment would be most welcome." Mr Hunter observed that country people as a rule had to wait round the street for hours before they cou'd get into the established restaurants. A new one would definitely relieve the position.
