HOUSE IN 10 DAYS

BUILDING IN HAMILTON

OCCUPANT'S SATISFACTION

In the erection of a four-roomed cottage in Tisdale Street, Hamilton, in the. remarkably short period of ten clays' is seen in certain quarters an answer to the acutc housing shortage which exists in Hamilton and other towns throughout New Zealand. On December 14. the first pile of the building, which is of semi-fabricated nature,, was placed in position and by Christmas Eve the house was ready for occupation. This fact has caused widespread interest and it is considered probable that there will be further developments in other centres. Although in no way elaborate,, a. dwelling such as the one in Tisdale Street presents a neat and compact appearance and would satisfy many who at present, are forced to live under poor conditions. It is a four-roomed dwelling, equipped with modern conveniencesl. There is a coal cooking range, with hot and cold water and; a porcelain bath and basin, as well as copper and tubs in the washhouse. The house is connected with the town sewerage. The building was prefabricated in a Hamilton firm's factory and was erected; on the site. 'T f am more than satisfied;/' was the occupier's response to a query as to her opinion of the house. The total cost of erecting the building was £675.
