TERRITORIAL CAMP

MEN DEMOBILISED TO-MORROW * The territorial camp at Matata which has been in operation for the past two months, assisting farmers with their harvesting will be dis--continued on Thursday, when the men >vill return to their homes. On account of general' labour ■shortage, the territorials were detailed to farm work instead of milH tary training during their 28 clays <mobilisutioii. The ideal weather conditions; which have prevailed over the past weeks, has allowed the bulk of the work in the district to be: completed, so it not thought, necessary to place a further lot in •camp, as any harvesting still be done can be undertaken by local labour. Although most of the territorials were inexperienced farm workers, they gave good all-round service in the hay fields and the general comment on their willingness and standard of work was very favourable to the lads. Many farmers availed 1 themselves of the. scheme, which was no doubt most acceptable, at this busy period of the season. The Primary Production Council appreciated the co-operation given by Lt. Baxter and his staff; they did all that was desired to make the scheme a success. Any calls on their service were promptly cater-' ed for and praise is due them for the management ancl transport of the men to and from the farms.
