COLLISION NEAR EDGECUMBE

A collision which took place 1 - on the north, bgink road about a mile from Edgecumbe last Saturday morning resulted! in a motor cyclist, Gordon Douglas Lewis McDonald receiving wounds from; which he subsequently died in the Whakatane Hospital a few hours later. The deceased who was a Sergeant. Pilot ill the R.N.Z.A.F., was pro-, ceeding on a motor cycle when' rounding a bend lie collided with a bread delivery van driven by Mr George Raymond Cowie, of Edgecumbe. The impact threw* the im jured man into a 6ft drain where, lie lay when the St. John motor am* bulance from Whakatane picked him up and transported h.im to hosi pital. The truck was badly damaged and the machine, wrecked alnxost beyond repair. Deceased's family live at Frank,to>n.
