PROSPECTS THIS YEAR LETT BR Vll< )M Ml XI ST K H In. answer to the Whakatane Borough Council's query as to the possibility of further State houses being erected in this town the Minister for Construction (Hon. R. Semple) has replied to the effect that loss of manpower and the urgency of defence works had' made it necessary to cease work on homes for civilian construction. The military calls were however now tapering off and l he hoped early in the new year to make arrangements for further contracts to be let.
