OBITUARY
MR CHARLES EDWARD YOUNG
The death or Mr C. K. Young at Iris home oil Lake Rotoiti last Mon-» day removes an ex-resident of Whakatane who had won the deepest ro» gard and widespread respect. The late Mr Young, better known to hi» friends as 'Charlie' was born at. Pic-: ton 7.2 years ago, and came of a well known family of early settlers there. In 1926 he came to Whakatane after having conducted a successful business at Pukekohe. Taking over the license of the Commercial Ho-> tel, he. quickly established the place as one of the best-run road houses in the Bay. During his: twelve years residence in Whakatane he took an active interest in all local I ventures which could invariably count upon his. liberal support. Retiring by nature he nevertheless; was never failing in his efforts to sup-> port and actively assist deserving causes . Many were those, who had. reason to be grateful for his gen-: erosity from time to time. The late Mr Young established a very wide circle of friends in town and dis-» trict, most of whom he. maintained constant touch with during his live years of retirement at Rotoiti. It was therefore with the utmost regret that Whakatane generally learnt of his passing. A Mason,of long-standing he was accorded a Masonic burial last Wed-» nesday when the funeral took place at the Whakatane cemetery. Wor-t shipful Bro Ryde. conducted the service. The pall bearers were Messrs Arthur Hall, Walter Thompson, Gray, Ken M^Clennan.
