NEW YEAR AT OTAKIRI

LOCAL HALL PACKED

A largo, gathering of dancers as-, sembled at the Otakiri Hall on New Year's Eve to enjoy the varied pro-* gramme arranged by the. local Patriotic Committee. This committcer is to he congratulated, on its enthusiastic members whose efforts and successful organising ability is very much in evidence at their popular dances. Alfehoifgh the night "was. rather warm., all appeared to enter into the fun of the fair, paper hats, iiiaoM, eix. helping along the carnival spirit. The hats were made by four of. the committee' ladies. The Lucky Hat No. was won by Leii Davies. Music was supplied by the Gaiety Boys Orchestra. Mrs Ka Armstrong obliged with extras, and also was on hand, at midnight to play the old year out and the. hew year in. when all joined in the singing of Auld Lang Sync. A Statue Waltz was won by Miss L. Forbes and. partner, and a Monte* Carlo by Miss Ann Jessop and partnci\ During evening a bran tub did brisk business, the. '.sold, out' sign being in evidence quite early. Messrs F. Missc 11 and Gristall were in charge l ot' the cool drinks and also did good business. Mrs Armstrong and Mrs Man tell were, kept bu.-y with the sale of paper hats ar»(l masks. ' > 1 Competitions won during "the evening were: Iced Cake (donated by Mrs King),, Miss L. McPherson; Box Chocolates (donated by Mrs Peck), Miss J. Terry. j The supper arrangements wcro carried through bj r Mesdames Tickner, Lord, Peck, Cristall, Missen and Armstrong. ■ j The committee extends its grateful thanks to those welhvishers whose cash donations helped Ihem so Avell toward the planning of the evening's: arrangements and also extends season's greetings to their dancing public.
