In addition there were many gifts of fruit, flowers, papers and magazines. The actual celebration of the Christmas cheer ceremony was according to staff and patients alike the most successful' to date. Supply of Tennis Balls Tennis players may possibly look forward to the receipt of balls in small quantities from the distributing firm in Auckland. One club in Hamilton has been notified that Avhile its order for a dozen balls could not yet be met. it would be forwarded. They are coming forward from the factory in small lots to ensure continual deliveries. The Federation Sports Council has issued orders to all sports bodies which have been allocated a supply of balls. Tobacco for Discharged 1 Serviccmen A suggestion has been made to the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, by Mr W. M. C. Den* ; ham,, M.P., that as: numbers of discharged Second N.Z.E.F. servicemen are unable to obtain tobacco and cigarettes, the. Returned Services Association should, be allowed to obtain supplies, from the Army Canteen and retail them to these men at civilian prices on production of discharged papers. Mr Denham has now. received a reply from Mr Sullivan stating that it is impossible to arrange any seheme until after the holidays, but the. matter will then be investigated.
