WIN FOR UNITED OPENING OF NEW COMPETITION % The. cricketing fans opened after their holiday break with games at Wuimana anad, Taneatua. l>olii resulted in a first innings \Hn with Waimana defeating Central and United defeating Taneatua. The United-Taneatua game proved the uncertainty of cricket, but 'ac'k of practice, was evident throughout the game. Batting iirst Taneitua compiled. 95 runs, lleid played his usual solid display for 11 runs whilst Cleland contributed and Jardiner a breezy 18. Gayler i; owlid well for G for 15 whilst John secured J! for 17. Spring and Johr
opened for United but Spring Avas the only batsman to show form to secure 39. With 8 down for 72 Taneatua's position looked well but N. Rigden opened out to score a quick 1.9 runs and even the match. Green bowled well early in the innings to secure 5 for 36 and. Gleland 3 for 33. Taneatua had a second knock and at stumps had scored GO for the loss of 3 wickets.
