GREAT ACHIEVEMENT
RED CROSS AND PATRIOTIC SHOP
STRKKT ROTA RESULT
The most recent result of the street-rota staffing of the Red Cross and Patriotic Shop in Whakatane lia.s netted no less than £ 1(5-1 17s. This sum which has been raised in little over a month is a remarkable tribute to the Borough ladies who despite the restricted use of cooking ingredients due to rationing have, succeeded in stocking the shop and maintaining its splendid turnover.

Special Xmas Effort The ladies are now organising a special Christmas effort, the Borough being divided into six separate districts. Apanui, Allandale, Valley Road, Hospital Block, and Kopeopeo 1 and 2. The proceeds of this driA-e go towards the proposed. V.A.D. room, and details of its success will be published later. Residents who are desirous of assisting .with the Hospital Xmas cheer ilriAe are asked to lea\'e their gifts at the Red Cross Shop on Thursday. December 23rd Avhen the proceeds of the shop Avill be handed over to this cause. The special effort ceases on Christmas Eve, and residents are asked to afford it the most liberal support.
