ESPECIALLY FOR A CEMETERY TiriLE FOR Xlv\V AREA The question of a title for the new cemetery reserve which has recently been created on the Ohope hills has. been decided at long last by the city fathers who at last Monday's meeting' fixed, the name as the Whakatane Hill Cemetery. A motion by Cr Armstrong that it should, be called the Mokorua Cemetery was defeated and the second name, adopted. The council thereupon decided to dedicate the area of 8 acres as a public cemetery. It is anticipated that the new area will be in use within a few Aveeks. The clerk (Mr D. V. Saunders) made the suggestion that the Maori community might like a separate area set aside for their burials in order to give certain pre fere noes and honour to notabilities and to assist in the tribal habit of family interrments. The suggestion Avas endorsed by the council and. Cr Creeke was deputed to meet the. tribal committee wit}] a view to discussing the matter and. reporting back.
