HOT WATER CYLINDERS

NEW BASIS OF CHARGE

ELI MI X ATI XG WASTED POWER

At the meeting of the. "Whakatane Borough*. Council last Monday it was decided by way of meeting the general drive for the conservation of electricity to impose a separate metered rate on hot water cylinders instead of the old Hat rate charge.

The new rate will be for a time switch supply charge 3-1 Otli pence per unit, and lor a , full-time supply -1-lOth pence per unit. The new charges have been approved by the Price Tribunal.

•The supply is still being supplied at considerably -below the cost of the. actual power, but represents an increase of approximately twenty, per cent, on the previous, flat rate charges. The idea behind the regulation which requires councils to; make such charges is to ensure that the. power used on cylinders is not being wasted. Ll' therefore the consumer wishes to secure the same service at the same, cost the- onus will now be oil li lin to switch it off on every o'ccasion when it is not in use. (
