RED CROSS-PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE WORK k\ WHAKATANE Tlie monthly meeting was hold m the Borough Council Chambers on Tuesday December 1-f at 2 p.m., with Mrs W. Sullivan in the chair. A circular from Headquarters was read stating that it was intended to enlarge the monthly "Red Crossr Bulletin"' and. publish it as a magazinc, it would contain articles etc. and besides giving information of Red Cross matters would contain other interesting reading. It was decided to take three dozen copies,,! as it was considered there would be no trouble in disposing of* them at twopence per copy. Two further circulars were' read, one explaining the scope of ■. the Subsidiary Fund for which donations were requested, and the other re an Empire Red Gross Fund of £00,000 to supply synthetic varieties of Vitamin D to occupied countries of Europe for :ulministration to children. This could come out of the Subsidiary Fund which was 1 being built up against calls.'in the Dominion or overseas. It was decided that £25 be donated, to this fundMrs Sullivan said Mrs Pearse lia«i had to give up the work of treasurer, and Miss Jean Hunter had kindly agreed to take it on. Thanks v/ere expressed £o Miss Hunter. V.A.D. Mrs Pridcaux said the classes were all now. A Church Parade had been held on the. last Sunday in November., and had been well attended by approximately 20 Voluntary Aids., and. 25 members of the Junior Red Cross. All paraded in uniform. The V.A. clay at the shop was a success.. Lady Calway Guild: Mrs Mo ran reported that she had recently packed and despatched, one case containing NO soft toys, and another case; containing MO garments—47o articles in aIL l-t decided, that a letter be sent to Mrs Moran commending her on the marvellous .work she. had, done for the Guild. Mrs Ramson said that the Sewing Circle was working on pyjamas and making up grey flannel for the lief of distress 1 . A number of "garments was completed. Knitting Circle: Mrs Timbs said she had a quantity of articles ready to despatch, and more were to come in from the Institute and the school. People were very busy a„t this time of the. year, and knitting was pro-, grossing x a bit slower than usual. Entertainments: There had been no farewells this month, said Mrs Armstrong. The Entertainments Committee was working for its special effort on Xmas, Eve. Shop: Mrs A. G. Allan said the takings since the" last meeting were over £300, the special efforts had been very satisfactory, it was suggested that the shop be opened on December 23rd, :is a receiving depot for the Hospital Xmas gifts, and that the takings on this day be given to the same appeal. After Mrs Barry had been consulted this was agreed upon. It was decided that the shop remain closed during January and re-, open on February Ist, also that the next meeting be on Tuesday, Bth February. Considerable discussion took place over the. various opportunities for obtaining a V.A. Training Room, and it was eventually put to the meeting and carried that the matter be left to the Executive. Committee to eonshFer and that it should bring forward a recommendation, that would be discussed by the General Committee. The meeting closed with M>rs Sullivan wishing all those present the compliments of the season. .
