In the final games of the Collins Shield round Whakatane United defeated Central on the first innings aL Whakatane and Waimana secured a 0 point Avin over Taneatua at Waimana making United and Waimana 31 points each. A play-ofl will be necessary to decide Avho holds the shield, and. this game Avill probably be played early in the New Year, as the representative team against Rotorua takes place. next Aveek-end. The outstanding performance during the Aveeks matches AA T as cUi enterprising century by Graham Wardlaw for Waimana.

In the United v Central game the latter team wore defeated- by 30 runs on the first innings. United won the toss and, sent Central in to bat. Butler 21 and O' Laurie 26 played solid innings but 'wickets fell at round iigures and the • innings closed with 100 up. Whitehead was the most successful bowler with 4 wickets for 17 runs. Whakatane opened disastrously with. Johns and Spring back in the pavilion when only 1 run up. Cameron and McKenzie added 30 before MeKenzie. went Ibw. Cameron contributed a solid 22 whilst.
