UNUSUALLY LONG LIST
TRANSPORT DHIW UTMKNT AND COUNTY The Whakatane Magistrate's Court silling last Tuesday was mainly taken up with the unusually long list of traffic offcnces presented by the Transport Department and the County Traffic Dnsjector and; Police. Jimmy Hika driver ol' a ear involved in an accident at Te Teko on September 18 was charged with having no driver's iiecn.se. Constable Thomassen gave evidence . Killed 5s and costs 20s. Laurence Keith Costello for driving a car with defective lights was lined 20s and costs i2s. Taituaha Taihakoa who was charge ed with having no driver's license and no warrant of fitne.ss> was fined os and 10s respectively and costs totalling 395.
For having no driver's license Duncan Buchanan Palmer was fined -Is - and costs 12s.
William Richard Boon (Mr Buddie) owner of an unlicensed truck which was also without a warrant of fitness claimed (through counsel) that upon the occasion mentioned the. truck was conducting a load of hay from one of defendant's farms to the other. Normally it was not used on the road, at all. Fined 20s and 10s and costs totalling 2-is. For having no warrant of fitness Donald McDonald was fined 10s ancj costs J 2s. Mrs Clarice Gush (Mr Barry) forhaving no warrant of fitness 'was convicted and ordered to pay costs 12s, counsel stating that the ear had been tested but that the engineer had not put the warrant on the car as was his usual practice.
David Gibb Simpson for having no warrant of fitness was fined 10s and costs 12s. For a similar offence Thomas Sylvan Orr was penalised in the same way. Walter Sinton whose warrant was 3 months overdue was lined 10s and costs 10s. For ownership .of a lorry which had no current, warrant of fitness, Cyril Arthur Timbs was fined 10s and costs 12s. Owen Thomas Ernest for a similar oversight, was treated likewise, as was Max Hunt avlio's warrant was one month overdue. Another offender was Norman A. W. Carter (Mr Buddie) who claimed that pressure of work had been gen-* uinely responsible: for the oversight. Fined 10s and costs 12s. Edward Samuel Grant (Mr Buddie) faced a c'hargc of the same nature, but as defendant had been away in camp was ordered to pay costs only. Failure to procure fitness warrants cost Douglas Alexander Hay., Harry Sharrock, Keith Cos-: tello, Horace Coffin and James William C. Davies 10s and costs 12s.
Brian Cliaytor who possessed an unlicensed trailer which likewise lackcd a "YV.O.F. was lined 10s and 20s respectively and costs 345. County prosecutions included H. F. Back (Mr Buddie) who was charged with driving without a licenseFined os and costs 24s 6d. Charles James Hallett for a similar offenca was fined, 5s and costs 22s 6d. Gundy Paul a Waihou native wlio> permitted a chestnut draught to wander at large was lined 20s and costs 4,!'s (id. Rangirana Tamahou (Mr Buddie) who permitted a hay gelding to der on the road way lined 20s and costs 45s 6<l. Another Maori Tohia Tupe (Mr Buddie.) lor allowing a bay hack to wander unattended was also lined 20s and costs 45s 6d. Johnny Nuku the owner of a mare and a gelding found at large at Paroa was fined 20s and costs 27s 6d. t In the case ol' Peter Lyon Baird who was cliargcd with having an unlicensed tractor it was proved that the registration authorities had? made the mistake and he was ao< cordingly convicted and discharged.
