INSTITUTE MEETING
The monthly meeting of the. Wai-inana-N ukulum Women's Institute was held on Wednesday afternoon, Mrs Stevenson presiding. The Institute song and the motto read "We Serve." The secretary read the rules of the "Robert Young Cup" and it was decided to support the Federation in competing lor the cup. The golden thread was given by Mrs John Addison, who read, most interesting extracts from a soldier's let-i ter. A debate entitled "Should wives open their husbands letters" caused mucli laughter. During November, Mrs Stewart of Whakatane demonstrated glove making, and many members have made their gloves, the demonstration being much appreciated. The, roll call was. Riddles, and was Avell responded to. Tlie exchange of Christmas gifts followed and was a most pleasant part of the meeting. The day's competitions were judged by Mrs Fleming and Mrs Dick Boynton, andd the results were as follows:— Best double flower: Mrs Burnett 1; Mrs Hewitt 2; Mrs Stevenson 3. Best single flower: Mrs I. Savage 1; Mrs T. Wardlaw 2; Mrs Clark 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Boynton 1; Mrs Hewitt 2: Mrs F. Bell 3. Collection of vegetables: Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs F. Bell 1; Mrs i. Savage 3. Christmas novelty: Mrs T. Wardlaw 1; Miss Wuoltield. 2; Mrs Woo I field 3. The president thanked the hostesses, judges aiul all lor their help and the National Anthem closed the meeting.
