PLUNKET GARDEN PARTY

The Waimana sub-branch of the Plunket Society held a very delightful garden party in the grounds of All" and Airs M. home last Friday afternoon. The gardens and Lawn* made a very pleasant setting; for the occasion and the weather was perfect, and a most enjoyable time was spent by all present. The stall holders all did brisk business, the bring and buy stall was in the hands of Mrs Hampton; cakes and sweets. Mrs MeConnell, Snr. and, Mrs J. Mitchell; ice cream ami drinks, Miss Mitchell and Mrs D. Boynton and Mrs G. Mitchell; afternoon tea. Mrs John Addison Mirs Henderson and Mrs; Wykie. Games and competitions were very popular: Mrs Millc.r,■ Mrs J. W aidlaw and Mrs Burnett were in charge of the games, and Mrs Stansbury had a busy time as gatekeeper. The school children enjoyed a treasure hunt, in the drive, and Barry Stevenson was the lucky boy. A baby show was held, Airs Quirk of Opotiki, being the judge, the winners being: Vaughan Mitchell 1, Janice Boynton 2, Gail Hampton 3. Mrs N. Eagle, was the successful competitor at crazy croquet; Mrs Heather at clock golf and Mrs Sterlr ing at quoits. A Christmas cake made by Mrs Grant Mitchell, was won by Airs Dick Boynton; bunny, donated by Opotiki ladies, Maureen Wardlaw; and a picture, Avon by Mrs Bougen. Monetary donations were- received from A'lrs Sterling. 10s, Airs Ivnccbone 10s, Airs Clayton ss, Airs H. Bell £1. The net proceeds were approximately £20. There were, many visitors present from Opotiki and the surrounding districts. A buffet afternoon tea was served on the lawn, after which Airs Grant Alitchell, president of the Waimana Sub-branch, thanked all for their wonderful help and Airs King for the use of, her garden, which was much appreciated. the speaker also thanked the Opotiki visitors for their help and presence.
DANCE IN HONOUR OF MISS M. J. HUGHES
A much enjoyed dance was held in the- Waimana Hall last Monday evening, when the guest of honour was Miss M. Hughes, who is to be married shortly. Mr and Airs King and Airs W. Eagles supplied the danec music and extras were played by Alcssrs A. Bell and G. Wardlaw, and Mr McAngus capably acted as AI.C. The Monte Carlo waltzes proved quite popular. After supper had been served, Air Ducker called on th.e guest to come forward and acecpt a cheque from all present with their best wishes for her future happiness. Air K. AI. Allen, on behalf of Miss Hughes, thanked all for the splendid evening and gift which was greatly appreciated. Dancing continued and the National Anthem closed the function.
