RACING NOTES
♦ Another Treasury Contribution Resultant on the Canterbury Metropolitan Trotting Club meeting of two days this month the Treasury received a chejue lor £26,612 10s.. Turned Out Mr W. J. Moodabe's two year olds, Martial ;-s T ote and Desert Victory have Jhc.ii turned out in well grassed Taranaki paddocks, and will not be raced again until well into the autumn. This is probably a wise; pro-, eecding, for the juveniles will be given time, in which to finish, and thus be better able to compete against juveniles, more of which may be over-raced in the Hush of the season. A Four Figures Purchase The. New Zealand Trotting Derby winner, Bonny Bridge, has been purchased from Mr W. C. Aitclieson, of Christ-church, by the Methven sportsmen, Messrs S. Tarlton and J. F. Grant for 1000 guineas. He i.s°by Grattan Loyal from Bonny Logan. Winning Sires Mr Standfast has displaced Foxbridge. in the list of winning sires this season Avith £5995 against £1990 The figures for this pair will from now on be interesting especially until after the; holiday fixtures. A Comeback The victory of Battledress in tlu Levin Handicap was the. first registered by the Posterity gelding sinci he Avon the Northern St. Leger ir April last year. At the Waverlej meeting on Labour Day he ran i very moderate race, but from tha time made rapid improvemenl. Galloping Well News from New Plymouth is U the effect that Noble. Fox is gallop ( ing Avell on the tracks, and is likely to do his share of racing in the approaching holiday season. A Valuable Pacer By her Avin in the New Zealani Trotting Cup Haughlv has brough • up her stakes total to £9680, an'itl " a record of 15 firsts, nine seconds am " four thirds.
Resumed Training W. .Fergus has resumed training operations at. Ellerslic, and has taken in hand the. .sprinter Dinky Di. This galloper has a line dash of speed, but has not always proved to be reliable in his engagements. Prosipects of Lou Rosa Mrs E. M. Lennard.'.s Lou Rosa has been competing at recent meetings in the principal events, but as in the last t.AVo seasons has .shown that he docs not come to hand quickly. At Te llapa last Aveck he was still somewhat on the big side, but otherwise looked in great order and when parading in the: saddling paddock displayed plenty of vim and readiness to take on the cup contest. He. ran quite a fair race Avitli 9.11, and. finished up strongly although in the. rear division of the field. The gallop is likely to be very beneficial, and by Boxing D<iJ he can be depended upon to give a genuine exhibition of. distance galloping. His recent, lailures aic not likely to result in any big concession of weight in respect to the Auckland Cup.
