MEAT PRODUCERS BOARD
PRICES FOR LAMB At a meeting of tlio New Zealand Meat Producers Board held last week a report was received from the special committee which had previously been set up in connection with the opening schedule prices for the 194:3/44 season. Several conferences have taken place between the Hoard's Committee and representatives of the Government, and the opening schedule prices for lamb were recently announced by the Minister of Agriculture and Marketing. It is hoped that the opening prices for wethers, ewes and beef will be pub-, lished. shortly. During the afternoon the members of the Board had a discussion with the. new Minister of Agriculture and Marketing,, Mr B. Roberts, in regard to the utilisation of funds in the Meat Pool Account for the benefit of the industry. A <lraft of The Fat-stock Disposal Order for the new season was submitted by the Director-General -of Agriculture and received the Board's concurrence. A report was received with reference to the latest, position relating to the New Zealand Government's contract with the United Kingdom Government, for the supply of, 2500 tons of dehydrated meat during the present calendar year. Further progress was reported in egard to the question of providing bursaries fo veterinary students, and it is expected that details will be announced, shortly. Other general business related to an application for permission to effect alterations to a certain works, and matters concerning the Hides Committee on which the Board has representation.
