" BKLI XHA S LOST BITTTOX Belinda was very proud ol her new coat. it was a lovely shade of green and it fastened down the middle with twelve green buttons. One line afternoon mother took her "walking in the park. They had a line time watching the boats on tin- pond and the children flying kites. Then they played ball for a little -while and Iheny as it was nearly tea lime, they had to come home. As Belinda took off her eo.'it she said. "Oh. mother, just look!" And there, in the middle. A\as one button missing. "Perhaps we'll find it if Ave look in the park to-morrow." said her mother eh eer fully. On the next day they went over all the ])laces they had been the. day before, but they could not find any sign of a small green button. "Never mind. I may be able to get one to match." said Belinda's mother. iillt although .she Avent to all the shops she could not get anything like it. "If Ave take one from the bottom and put it in the middle there'll be a gap aL the bottom, and if avc take one from the lop there'll be a gap at the lop."' said Belinda. "Tin afraid we'll have to put a whole new set on." said her mother. Soon after this. Belinda's cousin Tom. who lived at the other side. •>. Ihe town,, called in to tea. Tom. avlio Avas about ten years old. was a great friend of IK'liiula'.s ! and after tea Ihe two began to play games. As they finished one game and were thinking of what to play next. Tom. in a Aery proud A'oiec. said. "I must show you my new knife." He plunged his hand into his left pocket and drew out a handful of lii:- treasures. He put them on the table and began to sort theni over. II was a strange collection. There were several lengths of string) two marbles, three stubs of pencil, an old key. a rubber heei. two caramels. a piece of chalk, the new pocI l.et knife and something else. Belinda gave an excited shout. "Where did you gel that?" "Oh. thai! I found, that in the park. You can have it if yuu like.'" It was button!
