TENNIS BALLS

ISSUE TO CLUBS

OUTLINE OF PROCEDURE

The procedure to be followed in connection with the allocation of Unnis balls to tennis clubs, and also private court owners, was outlined by Mr C. J. Casey, pro tern secretary of the recently-formed Bay of Plenty Council of Sport. As a result of voluntary labour Hiade available the production of tennis balls lias been under way at a factory in Auckland for some time,, and production has now reached the point where distribution can be undertaken, lie said.

Control of 'distribution had been placed in the hands of the various councils of sport, throughout the Dominion which will allocate supplies according to certain de-lined preferences: in which scrvicemeni. recognised clubs and private clubs and private owners, arc provided for. Although supplies at the moment were necessarily small to fulfil the requirements, of the whole Dominion, it was hoped that, as production proceeded, the allocations could, be more liberal.

Upon application the Council of Sport will issue written authorities to clubs (and private individuals where they are owners of private courts), for the supply of a certain number of balls, and the clubs will nominate the name of their retail supplier, which generally will be the- retailer from whom they purchased their supplies in previous years. The retailen, upon receipt of the order, will forward his orders to the factory which, will either deliver the requirements direct to the retailer or allocate the fulfilment of the order to any wholesaler who may be appointed. Clubs directly affiliated to the N.Z. Lawn Tennis Association will make their applications through their own parent body, when a similar procedure to that outlined above will be followed.
