The ease was heard before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., when defendant pleaded guilty to both charges. Sergeant Farrell explained; that the complainant was a; Maori woman Lizzie Raerino, who was apparently a member of the parly and who had .subsequently missed Imr handbag as a result. She had complained to the policci who upon making enquiries had unearthed the story of a iir.st-e.lass beer parly and the prosecution was brought as a result. Bryers was lined £5' and £2 on each count, respectively and costs. Two Maori men John Taylor Hunia and Jack Hunia were also charged and pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting in the offence.
