.» _ local patriotic activities October meeting The monthly meeting of the Red: Cross-Patriotic Committee was held hi the Borough Council Chambers* on the 12th October. For the Entertainments Committee,, Mrs E. Armstrong reported that tiiree men had been -privately l'arcwelJed, during the month. They were Flt/Eng. Parry, Jim Otiey and. R. Corcoran. Mrs Sullivan explained that we had been sent a piece of grey flannel by Headquarters. We had ordered it under a misapprehension be-: lieving that it could be used at the committee's discretion but actually it was for the Relief of Distress- only. After discussion it was decided to keep the. llannel and try to get volunteers to make it up. Mrs Buddie . and Mrs Dainton each offered to make, up some. V.A.D: Mrs Pridcaux said that Intermediate and Advanced classes in Home Nursing were nearly completed. Manawahc and Matala had been examined recently. The V.A.D. would, like to take the shop for their own funds some time in December. Knitting Circle: Mrs Timbs gave a list of articles sent in during the month. They were Patriotic: 12 pairs mittens, socks, 2.~> scarves, 27 balaclavas, 1 cap, 2 sleeveless bullorers; for Joint. Council: 2 cardigans, 3 long-sleeved pullovers, ('» sleeveless pullovers, 1 scarf, 1 pair mittens, 8 pairs socks, 1 pair bed socks, 1. waistcoat; in addition 0 garments, had
been knitted, far farewell parcels. For the Sewing Circle Mrs Ramson reported that a further supply of 22 pairs of cutout pyjamas ha J been received from Joint. Council. They had not yet been distributed. Comforts Committee: Mrs Shap--3 ley said that a parcel of woollen s goods had been sent to Ron Thompson, also 1 cake,. 1 tin lamb and 1 ' green peas,, and a tin of coffee and * milk. They had also written to hiia and sent him a Xmas card. During '• the last month the committee made 1 and Idled 12 hussifs, and packed 73 1 parcels. The "Women's. -Institute t packed 5 bringing the quota mp to •S3. This week they would be pac'ki ing Xmas parcels. Mrs Shaple.V ; thanked those ladies. avlio have supl plied materials and books -also darn- . ing needles. l Lady Galway Guild: Mrs Moran , said .she would be packing and despatching cases of clothing Avithln! r the next fortnight, so she would be > grateful if those who had promised . garments etc. would let her have , them within a week. These would ; be the last cases to go this year. Shop: Mrs A. G. Allen had taken over the. job of shop convener, and reported that the takings for the month were over £!)7. It was diy* cided that as the committee have paid £853 into Patriotic funds (quota £75 1 0) the shop takings till the end. of the month should be paid into the lied Cross General Purposes Fund.
